An old mine entrance at Holden Village. The village is about 7 miles up from the Port of Lucerne on Lake Chelan. Some people vacation there just as they do in Stehekin. Not much of interest to us in the town, but we enjoy visiting the mine.

One of my favorite photos for the week. Steven was stringing horses down the road for a pack trip and I snapped this photo near the landing. I love the shadows cast onto the gravel by the hot sun and the dust kicked up by those hooves.

Time for a new theme: Black and White! One of my favorites! My only wish is that I had spent more time planning for these photos. This first one is the "new" buses purchased by our tax dollars, I mean the National Park Service in May 2009. We have four of them and two are already broken....seems like they will be historic soon so black and white it is!

A flower in "seed stage" along the perimeter of the garden. This new lens Steven bought me is amazing, but I am sure I have said that before. If you look closely, you can see the blurred fence lines that surround the garden. Should have changed the aperature a bit to increase clarity of the seeds....there is always next time!

Time for a new theme...negative space! Spotted this little bird on the front porch and snapped a picture. I am pretty sure this was one of the baby birds that was participating in morning chirping routines for about 7 days in a row at 4:30am. Glad to see it is big enough to fly away!

Another float plane reflection I spotted while sitting in the kiosk at work one day. I have decided to take my camera to work everyday now because a few weeks, there was a handmade wooden ore boat and a Lake plane/boat contraption that I missed those photos because my camera was resting at home...never a day off for the camera again!

Changing things up a bit today! Reflections are in the sunglasses here. I do love this new 85mm lens and the bokeh achieved. The clarity in her eyes and glasses is sharp...sharp...sharp!

Water reflections...maybe that is what I should call "my" theme for this week. Most of my pictures seem to include water in them, and so much more of course. So, this is my friend and she was a willing subject as a played around with my new lense. In this photo it seems as though she is reflecting on all the past summers she has spent in Stehekin and thinking ahead about the how different this summer with be as she begins Paramedic school. The green color of the lake is real...no effects there....and called glacial silt or runoff from the tops of the mountains.

An afternoon hike to Coon Lake revealed these yellow lily flowers swaying in the wind out on the lake. After taking the picture, I noticed how the flowers and lily pads filled the reflection on the tree cast out onto the water. Goes with the theme....I do think so!

The goal was to catch the reflection of the ducklings in a line behind the "momma." The water wasn't quite still enough. Still a great capture to reflect on the beauty in a relationship between a parent and child...animals included! Those ducklings are so safe and carefree as long as they are all in a line.

Another new theme - reflections! I even have pictures for this one. While reflecting on this theme....my only wish is that I had more time to contemplate before taking the photos. So much can be included in such an awesome category. Here is a reflection on the lake as the float plane is arriving early in the morning. The orange color against the blue lake is amazing right beside the reflection on the mountains. Maybe the picture is a little dark...but didn't want to lose the blue in the sky!

At Buckner Orchard, several old historic buildings still remain. This is the old cabin there and I liked the way the light was shining in the door and creating a shadow on the floor. Such great history around Stehekin!

Check out the light peaking through the clouds after an afternoon Stehekin thunderstorm. The steam rising from the river at the bottom is a good indication a storm has just passed through.

My intention for a photo at this moment was the helicopter dipping water out of the lake to fight a fire. Of course, one I changed lenses on my camera and set up my tripod, the bucket was full of water and the helicopter was at the top of the mountain again ready to dump more water. I was able to snap this photo of a friend windsurfing! As for light...it is hard to get good exposure in full sunlight...but I will continue to try!

The was setting one evening at the ranch as locals gathered to play volleyball. Of course, we all know how much I lack in the ability to play sports...so I was looking around for things to capture with my camera instead. I saw the light coming through the clouds and casting a peach color across the sky and decided a picture would be appropriate. Nothing too exciting...but a picture it is!

These are the cinnamon rolls served at the local bakery.....an object that my nose smells, taste buds desire, and stomach appreciates! Everyone in the community and tourists passing through love these things. The bakery is known for them and you can see why by checking out the size in the picture. Steven and I enjoyed them last Friday (Day 62) straight out of the oven....mmmm...good!

Mountains, horses, friends, green grass, the ranch...all objects that I love to photograph. Starting to work on some shots in full sun too. I think I might read a bit on it next week and start clicking away in the sunshine. Rumor has it that pictures in the full sun are hard to master...figured now is as good a time as any to give it a try.

I just received my 85mm in the mail this day and we stopped by to visit her in the "studio". Check out that bokeh and sharp focal point! I am going to love this new lens...so yeah...I guess this does tell something about me...I got my new lens (previously pictured here in just a picture) in the mail.

Another NEW THEME - Objects that tell something about yourself. Just so you know here...I didn't do well on this theme. I did get a picture for each day though. The first one is a vase of flowers on our kitchen table. Its just an indication of what our table is like in the Spring. I love to find fresh flowers around to bring into the house. It was cloudy outside when I snapped this one and I only used the natural light from the window...thought the black and white conversion was appropriate.

A zip line was set up for the kids at the River Resort. The favorite part for the kids was getting dunked into the water on the "ride" down the line. Great to see the thought process of a child and the reflection too.

Back out on the mud flats...this time with kids...by age and at heart! Thought the shoes were nice and colorful in the foreground here as the kids are enjoying a warm day to splash through the muddy water.

The water level for the lake here (Lake Chelan) drops every winter leaving a large area of mud for kids to play on in the Spring. Warm days invite barefoot kids out to play in the mud and splash through the puddles of water. Some friends and I decided to be "like the kids" and play out on the mud flats one sunny afternoon. The girls are looking for a tadpole in the water.....love the shadows and the reflection of the mountains in front of the bright blue sky.

"Through the eyes of a child" is the them chosen for this week. I think I did "ok" with photos to fit the theme. I was honestly just trying to get a picture taken each day...it gets harder and harder each day as work picks up. Still clicking away though!! These two are from a family photo shoot I did for some friends. The one for the theme is first...this little boy was walking back to the truck as we finished the photos and he said "Hey Heidi...take a picture of my cool shadow with my hat and belt." The photo was seen through the eyes of child....

Running out of time this day to capture a photo. Steven and I were headed down the road during "moving week" and I noticed these blooming dogwoods. I thought a photo was appropriate and fitting for this time of year in Stehekin. Looks a little dark I know, but I wanted to maintain the integrity of the blooms instead of turning them completely white and losing detail.

Just horsin' around in my "blue" jeans while waiting on the barge to arrive with the horses. Let's see...saddle - check, lots of people - check, wind - check, late arrival - check...yep...sounds like a day for the horse barge! It was eventful and slightly chaotic..that's for sure. I am sure everyone could see the smile on my face either way..I love it when the horses are around. In fact, I hope to ride again tomorrow...9 miles up the road stringing five horses behind me wasn't quite enough!
